For the second year in a row, we’ve secured a second-place finish at the Esports World Cup (EWC). While the result may be the same, our journey couldn’t have been more different, especially after a rocky start. With three championship victories and multiple top-five placements, we couldn’t be prouder of what we have achieved.
Finishing in second place has rewarded Team Liquid with the same prize pool as last year, a whopping 4 million USD. While the money will surely go a long way for the company itself, the athletes, the supporting staff, and our fans are the ones who made this EWC journey truly special. We have had a fantastic run, with multiple top-five finishes and winning three championships. You can find out our points collection per game below:
A total of 4200 points meant Team Liquid finished in second position, as can be seen on the Esports World Cup Club Championship leaderboard.
The first major win we booked was with none other than Magnus Carlsen, the Chess G.O.A.T.. A different format, on a computer? It seemingly didn’t matter for Carlsen. His clock management was on point, and his moves were almost always exactly right. He only lost a single game in the grand finals versus Firouzja. Magnus has confirmed his legacy once more as one of the greatest in the sport.

Our second championship victory came through our Mobile Legends: Bang Bang team. The Philippine powerhouse proved itself way too strong for the defending champions, Selangor Red Giants OG Esports. With a clean 4-1 victory in the best-of-seven finals, the squad, led by captain Sanji, left no doubt about their status, cementing their legacy as a true super team.

The last major win was through our EA FC 25 player Manuel Bachoore. After an intense final versus Frenchman Brice Masson, where he won five to three, he became the first EA FC (formerly FIFA) player to win the World Cup twice. This is a fantastic feat we most likely won’t see repeated anytime soon. Not only did Team Liquid win EA FC 25, but we also secured third place through our athlete Levi de Weerd, who narrowly missed the final after his 5-4 loss to Masson.
Overall, we cannot emphasize enough how proud we are of our athletes and staff who made our second-place finish possible, and above all, thanks to all our fans who supported us either in Riyadh or from home. We wouldn’t be here without you.
